Love. Joy. Hate.

Churches are often symbols of love and peace.

Communication satellites can mean the world, literally, to remote inland areas and outer islands. Rocket vapor trails are best seen at dawn.

On this day (January 26, 2023), the American flag flies at half-staff to honor those killed at a California mass shooting in an Asian community.

Night Blooming Cereus

For one summer night only, this stunning plant goes from bud to full bloom. Worth an all-nigher.

Sky After Hurricane

The sunset after Charleston’s hurricane (2022) split the sky behind The Jasper with a dark blue band on top. The next year (2023), the hurricane’s sunset again divided the sky, but with the blue band on the bottom. Nope, not interested in having more hurricanes to see if the trend continues.

Bird Buddies

Watch for images with the two birds: one real, one metal. The weather vane rooster, which sits atop St. John’s Lutheran Church, is often visited by the local hawks. They are great buddies, and the rooster doesn’t seem to mind if they sit next to him or on his head.

Equalizer

London’s Westminster Abbey at evening services. Here you can stand as an equal to kings and queens under a ceiling that makes no distinction between the creatures below, past or present. Besides protecting you from the rain, its only function is to divert your attention to a higher space and bring you joy.
